My name is Marina Benedetto. I am the owner and chef at Yeah Dawg!!! I started this business in June of 2013. I had spent the previous 5.5 years working at a homeless youth shelter as a chef and counselor. My job was to feed and introduce kids that were used to fast food, healthy meals that nourished them. I had to make the meals accessible and culturally familiar. So it was here I really got into reinventing “Classic American” food like Burgers, Mashed Potatoes, Collard Greens, Mac and Cheese, Cornbread. I also had to offer herbs and vitamans to a variety of kids with compromised immune systems, liver detox, and overall wellness. It gave me pleasure to feed and heal people. It was here I decided that food is medicine. Everybody can be healed through food. Food is what engages us and allows us to connect with each other. After a burning desire to embark on this vision to heal people through food, all I could think about was what can I offer that hadn’t been done? Reinventing the American Classic, the hot dog! Ta Dah! Like that Yeah Dawg was born.
